I am in the middle of my 4th week and started day 1 on the week 4 programme however I just couldn't manage it. Week 3 was very hard but I did it but now I find I cannot possibly do the week 4 programme-it is such a hugejump between 3 and 5 minutes jogging. I have gone back to week 3 but still find it hard and do not see myself going on to week 4 next week.I am 48 years old, healthy and walk nearly every day. I don't smoke and I am healthy eater. I am also doing the programme on a treadmill which is supposed to be easier. So what is wrong with me???? I feel very discouraged and as if there is something wrong with me.

Hi Amanda. Don't get discouraged; you are doing a great job! If you need to repeat a week before moving on to the next workout, that's ok! Please check out our New Runner community when you have a chance: http://community.active.com/community...

I would like to know if I can use a treadmill and if so is there anything I need to change in the routine

can I use a treadmill on this program?.-
Hi supagran50. Yes, you can use a treadmill or run outside/inside for any of our training programs. One change you may want to make is setting the incline to 1% to compensate for the lack of wind resistance. Here are some articles on treadmill training:

Between week 3 and week 4, you expect us to jump from 9 minutes of running total to 16 minutes of running total. That seems like a big leap

Week 3 to Week 4 too big a jump.-
Hi Anne. Thanks for letting us know of your concern. It is a moderate increase, but that is the correct amount. Of course, if you need to repeat a week before moving on to the next workout, that's ok! Please check out our New Runner community when you have a chance: http://community.active.com/community...

The "Couch to 5K" article clearly states to space the 3 workouts throughout the week.
I currently only have access to run Monday nights, Tuesday nights, Wednesday nights and Thursday nights. That means I can't exactly space the 3 out evenly. I'll have to do 2 back to back and then one but all during the nights Monday-Thursday.
What harm am I doing?
Will I not get the same effects because I cannot evenly space out the 3 workouts throughout the week?

Space out the 3 Workouts?.-
Hi Matt. Ideally, you should try and space the workouts as evenly as possible. If you can't then your body may feel more fatigued if you have to do two days in a row.

So I ran my first half-marathon using your beginner half marathon program, my time blew me away: 1:50:09. I have another half scheduled in about ten weeks, my question is, what now? I assume I don't want to start over in week 2 or 3 of the same schedule I just completed, so how do you build on a finished race for a future race while giving the body a little rest?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
How to maintain and improve between same-length races?.-
Hi Tom. You could do the Beginner Half Marathon Program again or you may be able to jump into the Intermediate Half Marathon Program if you had been running 25+ miles per week. Hi,
So I've recently started jogging following this program, and in the last week I've found that after about a mile of jogging (as well as walking in between) my right foot starts going numb and tingling - think pins and needles but no pain, and it doesn't spread. It fades after about five minutes sitting down, but I'm guessing it isn't good. I'm new to jogging, so do you know how to sort this out?-
Hello. Unfortunately we are unable to answer individual training/injury questions. You can try posting this in our online discussion forums, but if this is injury-related you would want to consult your physician. Hope this helps!

I live in the country on a dirt road. There is a street nearby, but it has a lot of curves with no shoulders and it not very safe to be on. Is it safe to do this on a dirt road?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
jogging/running on dirt road.-
Yes, you can do the Couch-to-5K on a dirt road or trail. Some choose to run on a treadmill; its just comes down to personal preference. Please feel free to check out our online discussion forums (link above) for feedback from other runners!

Hi there, I'm really interested in starting your program, but I want to do it on a treadmill, what do you suggest the speed of the jog versus walk should be? Also, should I add an incline?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Program on the treadmill.-
Hi Nansi. Glad to hear you are interested in starting the training plan! You can certainly do the C25K on a treadmill. Pace would vary from individual to individual, so we unfortunately would not be able to recommend a specific speed. However, the general rule of thumb for treadmill running is to set the incline at 1%, as that can help replicate the energy used to normally overcome wind resistance.
If you'd like input from other user's who have completed (or are currently doing) the C25K plan on a treadmill, please head over to our discussion forums to ask these or any other training questions you might have.

As a Christmas present, I am going to help my mom train to finish a 5k. Would this be a good running plan for a 51 year old woman who is out of shape and has had 4 kids? Should I find an easier plan, or will this do fine? thanks!

Breathing! What's the proper way for a runner to breathe? I've heard of cadence breathing, but not sure if that's accurate or not. If I could get my breathing in check, I could definitely run farther. Thanks!

Hi All,
I have JUST started C25k running program and am stuck and week 4. I'm finding it's really hard to run past a certain time - I just peter out....I was wondering for any of you that have trained with this program, what do you do? Do you get a week behind until you're able to meet the time goal? Or do you push on to the next time? This Monday I didn't make make my goal so I ran Tuesday morning and tried again Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning and tried again that afternoon, and Thursday (today) this morning and came back an hour ago and still couldn't get it so I'm going to try tomorrow. I've slowed my pace, I've varied my breathing, I've used music as a motivator. I don't want to get burned out or frustrated and use this as an excuse all together to quit (considering I've been allergic to any forms of running for the past 38 years). Would you all please give me some suggestions?
Much appreciated.
